The Brown Scapular
Members of the Carmelite Order wear a brown scapular (two pieces of material joined and worn over the shoulders) as part of their religious habit. Lay people may wear a smaller version of this Scapular which unites them to the Carmelite Order in a special way, as they seek to imitate the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen and Mother of Carmel, clothing themselves in her virtues.
The Brown Scapular is an outward sign of love for Mary, Mother of Carmel, trust in her intercession and a commitment to live like her in following Jesus.
Small Brown Scapulars are made at the Monastery in Launceston and can be purchased there or sent via post.
