Feast of Our Lord
We honour the name of Jesus because as we read in the Acts of the Apostles “there is no other name under heaven given to the human race by which we can be saved.”
In the first reading (Philippians 2:1-11) Paul encourages us to imitate Jesus in his humility “accepting death, even death on a cross. But God raised him high and gave him a name above all other names so that all being in the heavens, and on earth should bend the knee at the name of Jesus.” In the Gospel (Luke 2:21-24) we hear of the circumcision of Jesus “they gave him the name Jesus, the name the angel had given him before his conception.”
