Anniversary of the Dedication of our Chapel
(Transferred from 14th December)
12th December is the transferred feast of the Anniversary of the Dedication of our Chapel. The dedication took place on the 4th centenary of St John of the Cross’ death in 1991 but then we had to transfer his Solemnity to 15th which always seemed odd, so we gained permission to transfer the Dedication so we could celebrate St John with the rest of the Order and the Church.
In the first reading (1 Kings 8:22-23, 27-30) Solomon asks God to “watch over this house, over this place of which you have said “My name shall be there.” The second reading (Hebrews 12:18-19,22-24) tells us that we “have come to Mount Zion and the city of the living God.” The Gospel (Luke 19: 1-10) recounts the story of Zacchaeus and in saying “Today salvation has come to this house” Jesus reminds us of our call to be ourselves a house of God.
